Week beginning 20 October 2001

The Spur-winged plover didn't make it... it got separated from mother hen and died from exposure to the cold.  The Paradise ducklings are still growing apace.  We've had the last calf, Ivy's fourth daughter on this farm.

The Pheasantams are hatching!  Early on Thursday one chick had made a small hole in its egg and was continuing to scratch its way out.  Please let us know if you've heard of such a cross before.  It's probably not very common, as even though you could cage a pheasant with some hens, he just might not fancy them enough to do the business.   Genetic Engineering in Diggers Valley!
